One week to go!

Wow, I can't believe I'm leaving in one week!  Both exciting and unbelievable is the fact that I am taking a break from my regular work of teaching and going overseas.   What am I doing? (a very popular question, which is sometimes difficult to discern...)

Well, first, I am going to Nicaragua.   I leave February 4th, where I will be staying for 2.5 months.  I will be living with a missionary family there, the Randall's, and be volunteering at the Nehemiah centre.   This will be my third time in Managua, Nicaragua, the first time in 2006 with TDCH, and again last year visiting Aleida van der Woerd, who is currently teaching at Nicaragua Christian Academy there.

At the Nehemiah centre, I am going to be doing a wide range of things, from teaching, working with the teams that come, bookkeeping, cooking, computers - you name it.  The list of possibilities is pretty big.   Basically, they said be ready for anything, every day is going to be different!  Sounds good to me!

April 23rd, I come back to Canada for a week, before jetting off to South Africa and working in a local school there, helping with curriculum development.  I am excited about this prospect as I am exploring if that is what I would like to do my masters in.  After working there for three week, my mom is going to be joining me and we are going to tour a bit of the African continent for 2 weeks seeing my top 3 (Kruger National Park, the Okavango delta, and Victoria Falls- its like being on a National Geographic film).

So I am set to return sometime in early June...and then what will I do with my summer?  Too many adventures await before then  - one thing at a time!

So hopefully, you will be able to follow some of my adventures here, and keep me in your prayers as I hope to learn more about God's creation and people in different parts of the world.

  2. Hey Lisa -- Mylana just told me that you're heading to work in Managua for a bit, so I thought I'd find out what you're up to. My best friend, Dave Stienstra is there (and has been for eight(?) years) and has been working at the Nehemiah Center. I'm sure you'll bump into him at some point while you're there -- say hi from me! :) Anyway, sounds like a great opportunity for you.. I hope you have a great time!

  3. Hey! Will totally be following your trip and praying for blessed travels! If you come across the Hands at Work base in White River, SA (not sure if you'll even be close but I know they're close to KNP) ask around for Tyler and Alicia Ralph - my brother and sister in law! I'm sure they'd love to meet you - a fellow Canadian :)
